Portfolio: Work for Hire - Cakes

All work pictured on this page was done as work for hire.
All Images and designs are owned by the company who commissioned
the works and are pictured here with intent of showing what I am capable
of creating within the confines of an upscale cake studio for resume purposes only.
I have given credit when possible to the companies.
Some photos are likewise the copyright of the company which employed me at the time,
and are pictured here only for the sake if information.

Please note that I do not use molds for the creation of my figures.
They are all sculpted from scratch by hand.

Thank you for viewing my portfolio.

on top of the cake. Heather Barranco DreamCakes, 2012.

4.5 foot tall cake -- The body is all cake and the head is cereal treat
with foam core and PVC armature. I did the bulk of the work on this cake,
with help from the owner of the company. For Design Cakes. 2011

Antique White and Rose peacock cake. The peacock is gum paste.
All the feathers were created by hand in gum paste and painted before
being taped into a flexible tail. The cake also featured molded lace appliques.
I did all the decor on this cake, though I did not fill, ice, fondant or
stack it. For Design Cakes. 2011

Hunger Games themed birthday cake featuring the bird logo from the
book cover. Cake was fondanted and decorated by me as were all sculpted
decorations. The "jelly plastic" finish was a mix of petal dust, piping gel
and glitter over black fondant. For Heather Barranco DreamCakes, 2012.

Gum paste figure for grooms cake. At Pink Cake Box. 2008-2011

Whimsy wedding couple. A signature design of mine. This was
for a Tim Burton inspired wedding, but the clients did not wish to use any of his
characters in order to better make the night their own. For Design Cakes. 2011

Display made for a wedding expo put together by Grace Ormonde.
Cake was five tiers high and based on my design. I created the bust, bird and
feathers as well as the flowers. Decoration was executed by myself and the
company's owner. For Design Cakes. 2012

Angular Wedding Cake with sugar flowers. I created the sugar
flowers and placed them on the cake. For Design Cakes. 2011

I created the figures based on illustrations from the classic Alice books.
I also made the sugar roses and pained them. The patterns on the cake were my
design, though the cake was filled, fondanted and stacked by someone other
than myself. All decorations were created in gum paste. For Design Cakes. 2012

Black rose and copper wire wedding cake. The cake was based
on an image the client provided. I created the flowers and decorated the cake,
though the cake was filled, stacked and fondanted by someone
other than myself. For Pink Cake Box. 2008-2011

the cakes of which there were seven (or so) with slightly
different designs. For Pink Cake Box. 2008-2011

Stag cake. I sculpted the head from cereal treat and
carved the cake to fit. I also fondanted and assisted

created by me. I did not build the armature.

Gum paste flowers. I created these and painted these.
For Pink Cake Box. 2008-2011

One of my specialties-- Bulldog cakes! I forget how many

start to finish. Head is cereal treat, body is cake. For Pink Cake Box. 208-2011

Scarlet Calla lily cake with piping. I created the flowers and did the detail work.

2D 3D gum paste illustration on rotating globe of cake.
I designed the illustrations and executed most of them with assistance
from the shop owner. For Pink Cake Box. 2008-2011

Famous Character Cake. I've forgotten what shop
this was done at as I've made a few versions of the same design.
I created the figure and the flower, but I do not
think I decorated the cake. 2008-2011

Display cake based on an illustration of mine at the request of the owner.
The picture on the right is the cake as I finished it. On the left is the
same cake with embellishments from the shop owner after a magazine
requested she glam it up. I also built the stand. I glazed the cake
later to make it last longer in the window which accounts for the sheen on the
picture to to the left. All elements are gum paste and fondant. For Design Cakes. 2011

Cake created for a magazine shoot. I designed the flowers and sculpted
them based on phots of real roses. I did not decorate or design
the cake. For Pink Cake Box. 2008-2011

Peacock and peahen wedding cake with lotus flowers. My last
creation on the job for this company, the cake was decorated after I
departed, and rather a lot of extra gold details were added to my design.
The birds and feathers are gum paste and hand painted by me. I designed
and executed the lotus flowers based on pictures. For Pink Cake Box. 2011

Princeton Mascot display cake. I designed and executed this cake
on my own in a very short period of about two days. It was over 30" long.
For Pink Cake Box. 2011

Assorted sugar flower designs.
When I am trying to perfect the look of a flower, I often
take cell phone photos. At Pink Cake Box. 2011

Famous character in gum paste. Not sure where this
was as I've made a few of this design. 2008-2011

Another signature -- I've done a lot of graffiti
cakes, but I think this is the first one. It also had stylized
2D break dancers. For Pink Cake Box. 2008-2011

I created the fire-breathing gorilla and helped
in decorating the cake. At Pink Cake Box. 2008-2011

Another design I've been asked to repeat multiple times,
but I do think this is the first one. Gum paste, piping gel and hand painting.
At Pink Cake Box. 2008-2011

Famous Character figure in gum paste. About 9" tall.

Famous character mini cakes. I sculpted all the characters in two days.
Thirty three total. For Design Cakes. 2011

Display cake for the television show Dina's Party.
I hand painted all the images using food color and a brush freehand.
The character on the top is gum paste and was another overnight order.
I completed this in one day. I did not fondant the cakes
but did all the rest of the decoration. For Design Cakes. 2011

This was a cake for an adult! Unicorn is gum paste.
